Introducing our newest shirt to the HHH family – which %100 of the proceeds support the life saving work on the ground in NW Haiti.
“Broken Pieces” – a reminder that out of brokenness comes hope…healing… an opportunity to restore and bind up…
We’ve heard Haiti described as a “beautiful mess” – resting in the center of the Caribbean – bruised by injustice… it’s a beautiful place with beautiful / resilient / joy-filled people… that endure the mess of hunger / corruption / hardship…

Wear the shirt – proud – and share the story of the Haitian people…

Introducing RACE 2 HELP HEAL HAITI -

simple people that believe when we offer what we have – we can change the world.
We are from different walks of life – different experiences… we are young – we are old – we are men and women united for a powerful cause: we RACE to save lives in the poorest zone of Haiti.

On May 5, 2012 we will each run 13.1 miles in Indianapolis, IN as a part of the OneAmerica Mini Marathon.

Our goal is simple – RACE 2 HELP HEAL HAITI
We race to raise $2,500 individually – $50,000 collectively – providing life saving medical attention to undernourished children, to tumor stricken adolescents, to burn victims, to at-risk pregnant mothers, to real people – with real stories living in real poverty…

Together – we can make a difference – join us and give life… JOIN US

Take a student to a Coldplay concert – big lights – heavy production – lots of energy – they are in awe.
Take a student to the poorest place in the western hemisphere – no electricity – lots of heat and discomfort – thick with poverty –
they are transformed.

Help Heal Haiti and NWHCM give you the Restore Retreat – an in-Haiti retreat to awaken, equip and empower a generation to change their world.

You see… take a student away from their phone – away from facebook - away from youtube – from air conditioning and paved roads – away from “life-as-we-know-it” American culture… and step into the real world of Northwest Haiti… something incredible happens. It’ something that you cannot create – something that can’t be manipulated… their eyes are opened – they begin to listen to clear voice of the Living God who has created them for more than existence and passing trends… He’s created them to live – to be alive – to step into their potential…

The experience of Haiti joined with teaching, worship and reflection brings forth a response beyond what a formal trip or camp experience can provide. It equips and empowers a movement of awakened Christ-followers to live the gospel throughout their everyday lives. This is an opportunity for two worlds to collide and bring to the surface a beautiful new perspective. A perspective that recognizes a suffering world and begins to see it through the eyes of Jesus. Most importantly, this is the opportunity to become the change this world so desperately needs, the very change Jesus calls us to be.

July 21-30, 2012 St. Louis du Nord, Haiti RESTORE is an in-Haiti retreat that awakens, equips and empowers next generation ...

July 21-30, 2012

St. Louis du Nord, Haiti

RESTORE is an in-Haiti retreat that awakens, equips and empowers next generation leaders to bring cultural change to their communities. We want the core students of your youth ministry, college age ministry or campus ministry. Students and leaders who are primed to be world changers on campus, in the workplace and in their communities. Students who are hungry for a different way.

The experience of Haiti joined with teaching, worship and reflection brings forth a response beyond what a formal trip or camp experience can provide. It also equips and empowers a movement of awakened Christ followers to live the gospel throughout their everyday lives. This is an opportunity for two worlds to collide and bring forth a beautiful new perspective. A perspective that recognizes a suffering world and begins to see it through the eyes of Jesus. Most importantly this is the opportunity to become the change this world so desperately needs, the very change Jesus called us to be.

WHO:

IS RESTORE FOR?

High School and College Age students with Adult Leaders/Youth Pastors/Parents from any and all walks of life who are ready to encounter brokenness, poverty, challenges, truth, purpose and true joy.

WILL BE LEADING THE SESSIONS?

Shaun King: Pastor of Courageous Church in Atlanta, GA
Founder of ahomeinhaiti.org and twitchange.com

Janeil Owen: Executive Director of Northwest Haiti Christian Mission
Nwhcm.org

Brent Bramer: Director of Help Heal Haiti
Worship Pastor of Eastside Christian Church in Cincinnati, Ohio

RESTORERETREAT.COM pg 1

WHAT:

DOES THE SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE?

Each day will look a little different. We are on “Haiti time”…which translates to being flexible and ready for anything. We’ve put together a rough sketch of what groups should expect from the RESTORE trip.

Here’s an example:

June 11, 2011 depart your hometown and arrive in Miami
June 12, 2011 arrive at Northwest Haiti Christian Mission (St. Louis du Nord)
Introduction and Orientation
June 13 & 14, 2011
7am - breakfast
8.30am – MAIN SESSION
10 am – depart for service locations (you will plan VBS, etc)
lunch
4 pm – return from service locations
clean up
6pm – dinner
7.30pm – MAIN SESSION
9pm – church group time on your own

June 15-19, 2011
groups out at other campuses
groups plan activities

(VBS, feeding, teen nights, neighbors project activities, sports camps, etc)

WE WILL HELP YOU WITH THIS PLANNING.

June 20 & 21, 2011
7am - breakfast
8.30am - MAIN SESSION
10 am – depart for service locations (you will plan VBS, etc)
lunch
4 pm – return from service locations
clean up
6pm – dinner
7.30pm – MAIN SESSION
9 pm – church group time on your own

June 22, 2011
depart Haiti and arrive in your hometown – change the world

DO WE NEED TO PLAN?

Each group will be responsible for planning service activities for their service locations and their time out at other campuses. WE CAN HELP YOU WITH WHAT TO DO…just ask.

Usually, groups come into Haiti with a VBS planned, we would suggest that you do the same. Also, for RESTORE, we really want to challenge groups to focus on Haitian adolescents… they are often forgotten. You could plan a TEEN BIBLE STUDY, or bring money for “COKE AND CONVERSATION” (where students and leaders walk through a town and buy teenagers a coke and talk to them about life, faith, etc), for a sports camp or tournament, etc.

Please see page 7 of the NWHCM Travel Book for a few more ideas.

pg 2

DOES REGISTRATION LOOK LIKE?

You will need to register online at RESTORERETREAT.COM

That form is your first one to get started. You’ll need your passport number to register.

Once registered online… you’ll receive an email prompting you for a few more details.

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED 90 DAYS BEFORE RESTORE.

WILL RESTORE COST?

The cost of RESTORE $1,500.00

This cost covers expenses of your group flights, travel in Haiti, security, translators, lodging, all meals, RESTORE shirt, etc.

WHEN IS MONEY DUE?

Another $500 is dude 60 days before.

Your full balance is due 1 month out. (May 20, 2012)

HOW:

DO WE FUNDRAISE?

There are many ways to raise money for your trip: letter writing, yard sales, the Points program, etc.

For a detailed list of creative ways to raise funds…

Please see pages 8 – 11 of the NWHCM Travel Book.

DO WE APPLY FOR A PASSPORT?

Check with your post office for a passport application, or go to the U.S. Department of State web page: http://travel.state.gov/passport. Once you’ve applied for a passport… it can take as long as 3 months to receive it, so give yourself some enough time before your trip.

See page 5 of the NWHCM Travel Book for more details.

MISCELLANIOUS:

DO I NEED IMMUNIZATIONS/MEDICINE?

Everyone is encouraged to update their tetanus and influenza immunizations. We also recommend Typhoid and Hepatitis A and B vaccines, which provide long-term protection. You should consult your physician or local health department regarding these and other immunizations you may wish to receive. Please see page 5 of the NWHCM Travel Book for more details.

IS IT SAFE?

Short answer: Yes. We have been in Haiti for 35 years… we’re Haitians who speak the language fluently and know the culture. We have roughly 1,500 travelers from the states into Haiti each summer and are well informed about things happening all over the country. Each group is given security and translators.

See Safety Letter.

                        pg 3

WHAT DO WE PACK?

Each member of your group will be allowed 2 checked bags and 1 carry on. Our suggestion is that you use your carry on and your 1 checked bag for personal items, the other for team supplies (VBS, teen ministry, etc).

Short List: Bedding, Water Bottle, Bug Spray, Snacks, Sunscreen, Bible, Journal, Pen, Tennis Shoes, Swim-Wear, Girls – knee length skirts, Toiletries, Toilet Paper, Church Clothes (guys – khakis and button down shirt, girls – skirts or dress), Medication (malaria pills, headaches, etc), Team Supplies.

Partnered together with Feed My Starving Children – NWHCM / Help Heal Haiti are hoping to deliver 1,000,000 meals to children and at-risk adults living in the poorest place in the western hemisphere… Our relationship with FMSC allows us to get hot meals to those in need at only $0.05 a meal – (yes you read that right! 5 cents a meal to feed someone who’s in need) -

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
(from WFP)

Assessments show at least 3 million people need humanitarian relief, including food assistance, in the wake of the earthquake.

Even before the quake, 1.9 million people were ‘food insecure’, meaning they needed assistance to stave off hunger.

Only 50 percent of Haiti population has access to safe drinking water.

Some 55 percent of Haiti’s 9 million people live below the poverty line of US$1 a day.

Rural households spend almost 60 percent of their income on food; the poorest groups spend more than 70 percent.

Chronic malnutrition affects 24 percent of children under five, rising as high as 40 percent in the poorest zones.

Poor diet means many women and children suffer from micronutrient deficiencies. Anaemia affects 59 percent of children between the ages of six months and 5 years.

During 2008, high food and fuel prices triggered violent demonstrations and political upheaval.

In the same year, three hurricanes and one tropical storm struck Haiti, killing 800 people, destroying 27,000 homes and raising the general level of hunger.
10. Food prices have declined since September 2008, but remain higher than the four-year average

THE REALITY is this: NW Haiti is the “poorest zone” in need of life-giving nutrition… the zone has experienced further suffering since the earthquake – the battle against cholera is still ongoing – an undernourished people…

WILL YOU HELP? THROW A NICKEL ($0.05) OUR WAY?

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
